Which airport for Paradiski

The same rule as the rest of the Tarentaise: Chambery is the closest, then Grenoble and Lyon, with Geneva furthest. The gap is around an hour between the nearest and the furthest, which is worth knowing before you book flights rather than after.

Les Arcs and La Plagne are not one place

They share a lift pass, not a road. Les Arcs is reached by climbing from Bourg-Saint-Maurice; La Plagne is reached by climbing from Aime, thirteen kilometres down the valley. Getting between them on skis takes a cable car and twenty minutes; getting between them by road takes considerably longer. Book the transfer to the side you are staying on, and if your accommodation is in one and your ski school is in the other, say so – it changes which pickup point makes sense.

Numbers in the names

Les Arcs villages are named by their altitude – 1600, 1800, 1950, 2000 – and so are several of La Plagne’s. They are separate villages on separate roads, not districts of one place, and a driver sent to 1800 cannot simply carry on to 2000 in five minutes. The full village name on the booking saves a phone call on the mountain.

Peisey-Vallandry sits at the Vanoise Express itself, which makes it the natural base if you intend to ski both halves properly. Champagny-en-Vanoise is the quiet side door onto La Plagne, a real village facing the Vanoise national park rather than a purpose-built station.

What the drive is like

The Tarentaise road as far as Bourg-Saint-Maurice is fast and mostly dual carriageway. Everything after that is a climb, in the dark for much of the season, often on snow. On a Saturday the valley carries the changeover traffic for Paradiski, the Three Valleys and the Espace Killy at the same time, which is why Saturdays are priced and planned differently.

Which airport is closest to Les Arcs and La Plagne?

Chambery, by around an hour over Geneva. Grenoble and Lyon sit between them. Geneva still has the most flights, so compare the whole journey rather than the drive alone.

Can I stay in Les Arcs and be dropped in La Plagne?

They are linked by cable car, not by a short road – the drive between them goes back down one valley and up another. Book to where you are sleeping and tell us if anything else is happening elsewhere.

Is Peisey-Vallandry a good base?

If you want to ski both halves of Paradiski properly, yes – the Vanoise Express runs from there. It is also quieter than the big stations on either side.
