The drive to Tignes

South past Annecy and Albertville, up the Tarentaise through Moutiers to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, then the climb towards Tignes. The last half hour gains well over a thousand metres in a succession of hairpins, and it is the section where winter conditions actually matter.

This is the route where having a driver who works the valley all season earns its money. Conditions at Bourg-Saint-Maurice tell you very little about conditions at 2,100 metres.

Saturdays

Saturday is changeover across the Espace Killy and the valley road below Bourg-Saint-Maurice is the pinch point for Tignes, Val d’Isere and Les Arcs traffic at the same time. Allow substantially longer than a weekday in both directions. The Saturday price reflects the extra time.

Standard or VIP

Standard seats up to eight, VIP up to seven with more space per person once ski bags are loaded. For a three hour transfer to altitude, that extra room is the difference most groups notice.

Arriving in Tignes

Tignes is several separate villages at different altitudes: Tignes les Brevieres and Tignes les Boisses lower down, then Tignes 1800, Tignes le Lac, Le Lavachet and Val Claret at the top. They are distinct places with their own approach roads and a long way apart in bad weather, so the exact address is not a formality here – it decides the last twenty minutes of the drive.

Going home
