The drive to Val Thorens

From Geneva the route runs past Annecy and Albertville into the Tarentaise, leaving the valley at Moutiers. From there the road climbs the Belleville valley through Saint-Martin-de-Belleville and Les Menuires before the final ascent to Val Thorens at around 2,300 metres.

That final hour is genuine mountain driving: continuous climbing, hairpins and, for much of the season, snow on the road. Val Thorens is high enough that conditions at the top can be completely different from the valley floor an hour earlier, and the road is occasionally held or escorted in severe weather.

Saturdays and the resort car parks

Saturday is changeover day and the Belleville valley road carries the traffic for three resorts at once. Val Thorens is also largely pedestrianised, with arrivals routed through parking structures rather than to the doorstep of every building, so allow time at the end of the journey as well as on the road. Standard or VIP

Standard takes up to eight passengers, VIP up to seven with more space per person. At this altitude, with a three hour journey, the difference in comfort is more noticeable than on a short transfer.

Children, skis and luggage

Child seats are free but must be requested at booking with the children’s ages. Declare ski and snowboard bags so the vehicle has room for both people and kit – for a group of eight with full equipment this genuinely changes which vehicle we send.

Going home

For departures we work backwards from your flight, and from Val Thorens that means leaving earlier than you would from a lower resort. The descent is slower than the map suggests in poor weather, and we would rather have you waiting at Geneva than watching a flight leave.
